My initial idea steamed from my personal struggles surrounding dyslexia and dyspraxia, of which concerning time and how un-aware of it I am, I always meet deadlines, but in the mean time I find time passing quickly without realising. I wanted to convey these difficulties into visual representations in order to show others, and help them understand the confusion surrounding this matter; to give people a perspective of what I, and many others with dyslexia and dyspraxia have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. I hope this will break the barrier of the umbrella term people not so aware use in to labelling people with dyslexia and dyspraxia; ‘stupid,’ ‘clumsy’ or ‘dumb.’
The main objective of the project developed into the concept of the creation of a time line. Within this there are be 12 images; one taken from each hour between midday and midnight. The light altered over the course of the images due to the use of natural lighting in the daytime, in order to enhance the aspect of time with the light gradually fading to dusk.
​The aesthetics helped influence and defines the staggered and dazed stages in my work on how dyspraxic people view time. The boarders presented are to show the flotation of time when printed on aesthete, and how one hour can become so distant to the other, singling them out individually yet how they merge into one another with the transparency of the final images, allowing one hour to seep into the next.
The completed result shows the distortion of time and how warped the perception can become within 12 hours, highlighting this is a struggle on a daily recurrence for those with dyslexia and dyspraxia. I hope the illusions become apparent and the obstruction and self-reflection are seen as difficulties from the small intricate details to the larger scale tasks at hand. With in keeping with the “T w e l v e – e v l e w T” theme, the final results are printed 12” x 12”.
